Description
The plan was to leave mid-afternoon and drive up to Sanford. I wanted to take some photos of Main Street while there were still shadows and then stick around for the light of “the golden hour.” Our kids didn’t want to go, both in the middle of playing with friends when it was time to leave. So we got out the door with two mopey kids a bit later than hoped for. It was a Saturday and there were a lot of people and cars around, but the light was fading fast. Much of the street I wanted to capture was already in shadows. I walked down the street taking photos, our kids ducked into a bookstore. We gathered up our kids, more complaining, and walked down to the waterfront. The sun would be setting soon, the water was still, reflecting the clouds in the sky. The kids found balloons and then started finding shells, and painted rocks. Took some more photos as we walked along the lake.
The trip didn’t go exactly as hoped, but it was a nice time exploring and the kids even managed to enjoy themselves. I’m learning that inflexible expectations often steal one’s contentment and keep one from being fully present in the moment. Sometimes there are little bonuses, unplanned, yet better than what you’d had your heart set on. I appreciate my husband’s patience and laid back attitude reminding me we can come back another time if needed. Yet even better is to hold loosely my plans and realize one can still enjoy the moments that are off script.
