Artist's Description

Confession time, I used google street view to compose this painting! I was looking through my own photos and found one that had potential. I didn’t have time to go back downtown and take more photos right then. So, I went looking for it on street view to get a feel for context. My shot was looking east down the street, and I wanted to see what the arch looked like at the entrance to the street. That lead me to virtually walk down the street to look around and explore angles. I reached the “corner” and turned around. Looking back, and saw the scene depicted above. I liked the angle, and shadows (when I had been there it was really overcast, and there were no shadows.) So I painted the google street view. I still prefer to go to a place so I can explore different angles, but was glad to have this option. Apparently, I’m not the first to do this, one artist advocates for those creatives with disabilities, street view creates opportunities that would otherwise be impossible.
